OUR PITCH

Down Syndrome is not rare. 1 in 700 people in the US are born with Down Syndrome. Those with Down Syndrome are often misunderstood and wish for a more inclusionary environment. They aren't often seen as role models even though they can accomplish amazing things. we're trying to help people see Down Syndrome in a positive light. Our solution is "Me Too."
Me Too: Real figures for creating an inclusionary mindset and empowering people of all abilities. Me Too dolls, action figures, and toys are real people and role models for anyone to look up to, learn about, and be one among the rest.
Imagine a world where toys are more than toys; they encourage social inclusion and respect.

Namita Simha K - Hi Guys,
Hope you are all having a great time this summer.
I haven't been active on this page.
We could all be in touch through mail / FB / Whatsapp.
I feel that's more convenient.
I request one of you to update me about the present status.

You can reach me at kns350@nyu.edu.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! Not sure how often you guys check the loft, but hopefully you will see this soon!
So I know it’s summer and we’re all probably busy and I’m not sure what you guys have started so far for this project. I’m part of a new DFA studio so I’ve never really done this before, so I’m sorry if I seem totally clueless!

I’m wondering if we can all touch base about what we’re thinking for the focus of the project, and start to delegate how we want to reach out to users and what our research goals are. If you guys could comment/respond with what you think the most efficient method of communication is let me know! I think a google hangout early this week might be a good idea. (We apparently have to get our shit together by July 23.)

PS. I added a few of you on facebook because that’s often an easier way to reach people - if I didn’t, feel free to add me!

Ryan Johnson - Hey Michelle! I've been in DFA for a few years and went to Leadership Studio last year, so I know pretty well how it works. However, I am in Canada with very limited access to internet until Thursday night (July 23rd). I would love to start digging into this topic but won't be able to until then or Friday morning. Excited to meet you all though!

Ryan Johnson - Just glancing at the project packet, I would say we should focus on people with down syndrome (rather than family or caregivers). I think that will help us get the most out of this project, based on the what I experienced with last years project (which was on breast cancer). As far as education, communication, or health.. I'm not quite sure. I think we might want to pick one based on research, but ultimately make our decision after we interview a few people. My initial feeling is to go with communication. Just my thoughts, I'll try to check in as much as I can.

Michelle Baverman - Okay awesome! So we also need one person to participate in the group call on July 23rd...I'd be willing to do it if no one else is available. (if no one responds to this I'll just go ahead and sign up for it)

I'm also thinking a communication or education focus. Not sure what other fields everyone is in but I'm not sure if it would make sense to go with health if we don't have anyone that's in a medicine/health related major-but then again I don't really know so I'm down for whatever!
