Aleksandra Grabowski just completed a story: As a Studio Lead, I want to understand how to lead teams and mentors through a communication workshop so that they successfully learn how to communicate before the design process begins.

What are we doing well?
We had a very good fourth client evaluation and have progressed pretty far with our deliverables.

What are we doing less well?
We need to figure out the logistics of the surveys we made (who the info goes to and why), as well as how to actually sell our overall design.

What measurable changes will we make to improve?
We are going to create a two-sentence sales pitch for Dan to use for our whole design. We are also going to add in specifics of the surveys and who they go to.

What are we doing well?
We are communicating well and improving as a team. We are getting better at recognizing what we need to do before we present our iterations to Dan

What are we doing less well?
We have not been as on top of our deadlines recently, and have had a hard time understand what needs to be done. Also, we have been having a hard time communicating with the DFA representatives.

What measurable changes will we make to improve?
We will continue to make contact with the DFA representatives, and will try to focus on our deadlines

What are we doing well?
We're getting along well as a team. We are beginning to hone in on our focus for the project, and are collecting more information.

What are we doing less well?
We are having a hard time being specific: the scope of our project is too large. We also are having scope-creep issues.

What measurable changes will we make to improve?
We are going to stick to one main issue, rather than trying to solve every problem that DFA has.

As a DFA mentor I want know how to give applicable, targeted feedback to my team so that they can use it to amend their design process. (4 tasks)

Are we on track to complete our sprint goal?
Yes

What is our biggest confusion(s) or blocker(s)? Who or what might be able to help us?
We don't have enough data from DFA, so we will continue to communicate with Alex Sher to get that information.

What are we doing well?
We are working really well as a team, and are communicating well. We are able to stay on track in meetings and in class.

What are we doing less well?
We need to make sure that our story boards are concise and remind the client what problem it solves, so that we can insure that we are solving the client's problem.

What measurable changes will we make to improve?
We are continuing to maintain contact with Alex Scherr of Design for America and are working on improving our designs.

Retro for Saturday, Jan 21

Aleksandra Grabowski

What are we doing well?
We're working well as a team and fully collaborating on our goals. We constantly have new ideas for designs.

What are we doing less well?
We could work on the presentation of our design better, such as adding a shortened 4-panel to frame the problem when presenting the deliverable to the client. We could also find good sources of data through past and present DFA mentors/coaches.

What measurable changes will we make to improve?
We downloaded adobe illustrator to improve the graphic designs of our deliverables. We are also getting in contact with Alex Sher of Design for America at Northwestern in order to get useful feedback. In addition, we are reaching out to students who have done DFA and running our initial deliverables by them to see if they think would be helpful in the DFA design process.

Amanda Simmons

Are we on track to complete our sprint goal?
Yes

What is our biggest confusion(s) or blocker(s)? Who or what might be able to help us?
Our biggest blocker is waiting for responses. We've asked questions of many outside sources and just have to wait until they respond. The only people who can help are the people we've contacted.

Aleksandra Grabowski

Are we on track to complete our sprint goal?
Yes

What is our biggest confusion(s) or blocker(s)? Who or what might be able to help us?
We've already created the first deliverable so right now our biggest blocker is not knowing what the client thinks about our design. We are presenting the deliverable to the client on Friday, so after that we can fix the deliverable based upon the feedback we receive.
